June 18, 2010 - Arts Fest
Arts Fest was a culmination of a year of hard work by students in Fine Arts and Performing Arts. Teachers Renee Bareno, Ryan McCarthy, Mariana Bekerman, Yvonne Hatchett, and Andrew Hoxter led students in developing, choreographing, and performing curricularly relevant and meaningful pieces, including dance and choir.
Student selections from fine arts portfolios were displayed in an exhibit on the third floor, including proposals written by students, justifying their inclusion in the exhibition. Four student pieces were chosen to be included in a Student Art Showcase and were framed and exhibited in the prominent showcase space in the administrative corridor.
At the Arts Festival, Year 2 students performed a Reader's Theater play, titled For the Love of Her Country which they wrote and directed.

June 7-11, 2010 - Career Week
As a follow-up to our wonderful March to College month, Aaron Academy students participated in various activities for Career Week. This was a great opportunity for students to learn and experience many of the exciting careers that may be appealing to them as adults. We started the week with students selecting and scheduling appointments to interview Aaron Academy staff members. This gave them some exposure to the interviewing process, and also gave them a chance to get to know more about the staff they have been working with all year. The students also participated in a Career Panel Discussion in which outside professionals came in and spoke about each of their careers. We had a chef, film editor, photographer, and nurse speak as part of this panel. Later in the week, students visited sites in the community to learn first-hand how operations run in the workplace. The sites visited by groups of students were TD Bank, Animal Medical Center, and American Academy for Dramatic Arts. Following these visits, each of the three groups worked together to develop a presentation about their experience. The week's activities opened the minds of many of our students in terms of Career opportunities. It was a fantastic week and thanks so much to all those who participated. Look for Career Week to be a staple at Aaron Academy every spring.
